Getting Started with Simple Steps Autism

To get started, click on ‘My Courses” in your account

Here you will find each of your eight Simple Steps. We recommend you work through each step in sequence, so click on ‘Step One: Launch now’, follow the
on-screen instructions and take your first step to becoming a ‘parent-therapist’.

When you launch each section, you’ll see a number of options. The best place to start is the video. Watch the footage in each step, listen carefully to the advice
and insights from the experts.

If you’re watching footage of real-life therapy sessions, watch how the experts put ABA into action and keep a close eye on how the children respond to their
techniques.

Underneath the video, you’ll find more options. By clicking the resources tab, you can find all the appropriate resources and downloads for that specific section of
the programme. If you need access to more resources, visit our Resource Centre.

Beside the resources tab is the ‘Teaching Guide’. This will give you the relevant  literature for this section and will be useful for helping you to do extra research or
get more information on anything you didn’t quite understand.

Appropriate Supervision of an ABA programme

It is vital to remember that all the methods outlined in this brochure are very powerful behaviour change techniques and should be used responsibly (see www.bacb.com for ethical guidelines and minimum professional qualifications).

Try follow the steps in sequence which will really help you understand the science behind the program:

Step 1. Welcome to Simple Steps
A short introduction from the Chairman of Simple Steps, Lester Manley introducing you to the program ahead and what to expect.

Step 2.  Real Stories
Hear from parents and professionals about their real life experiences with Autism and how ABA has changed their lives.

Step 3.  Autism & Applied Behaviour Analysis
ABA experts introduce you to the science of ABA, but they also talk about coming to terms with a diagnosis of ASD, including assessment and diagnosis.

Step 4. Understanding Behaviour
The first step in effectively using ABA as a treatment for Autism is to understand behaviour.  This section simply introduces you to the theory with practical applications.

Step 5. Measuring Behaviour
Measuring behaviour is an important skill and this section looks at various techniques that will help implement an effective program with your child.

Step 6. Increasing Behaviour & Teaching New Skills
This is the first step to support you when trying to increase appropriate behaviours that are already occurring through the use of reinforcement and teaching new skills.

Step 7.  Dealing with Problem Behaviours
Dealing with ‘difficult’ behaviours is always a challenge. This section looks at strategies for dealing with problem behaviours that interfere with skill development.

Step 8 Simple Steps Guide Book
Our ABA experts got together and wrote a guide book introducing the science of Applied Behaviour Analysis.  A must read to support the video based program.
